Board layout is mostly good. I need to redo mine as it only works with the side open for now - my problem.Other Thoughts: Bad placement of x4 PCI-X slot. Overclocking is a breeze.
It seems to be a problem with most boards. Great board layout other than that. If you are running air only, get high capacity fans.
Pros: It's cool to have three SLI slots although I doubt I need anything above my two 8800 Ultras for a while. On-board sound is still a bit lacking on a board with this price. Very Stable and EVGA support was 100% dead on in helping me with SLI problem - thanks.
For anyone having trouble running 8GB with SLI, just disable SLI ready memory, works like a champ. Board looks cool as can be.Cons: My first 8800 Ultra covers to x4 PCI-X slot, negating my wanting a better sound card.
The Asus board works perfectly with the new PSU. The USB ports were failing one by one on that board, but it turns out my OLD PSU was going bad. I decided to reinstall my trusty Asus P5B Deluxe.
Tried different memory with no luck. I always swap the PSU at the same time I swap a motherboard. Nice board, sadly it wouldn't POST or display video.
While I'm sure this is a great MOBO if you get a good one, I didn't. So I RMA'd the EVGA board and got a refund. Pulled the CPU and reinstalled it, still no joy.
I had also installed a brand new Antec 550 watt PSU at the same time I installed the new MOBO.
If you get a rebate, be prepared to contest it because they may say you didn't sent all the required docs. Works great.
also, you will have to get a fan to cool the southbridge and not interfear with your video card. if you plan on watercooling your northbridge along with your CPU you'll need to get a custom waterblock for it. only thing is if you use triple SLI you will lose all your pci slots unless you watercool the video cards. they have one on newegg for about 8 bucks i think. no complaints. this is prob.
quickly changed from air to watercooling with it also. i used EK custom, it works great. one of the best motherboards i have owned so far. only praise.P.S. fits perfect. very easy to overclock, with a ton of options.
other than that, very stable and powerful motherboard.
the bigger the case the better the cooling. however beware that it only supports 800 Mhz ddr2 rams and up to 1200 in sli mode, so don't bother and buy the 1066 or higher ramms. the 780i is a great motherboard for heavy gamers and graphic designers. a great thing about it is the 3 way sli support with is great for further enhancement, and of course the 8 GB ram support. finally, it is a good motherboard that it delivers. i have a 9800gtx, an intel quad core, 4BG rams, and a 500Gb HDD all running smoothly. but be sure that you get a case the will accommodate its size, believe me it's a big motherboard.
